JERUSALEM, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that the Israeli Air Force launched a raid on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning, leaving a Salafist militiaman dead.
"Today we struck at one of those involved in the criminal firing of rockets at Eilat," Netanyahu said at the start of his meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic.
"I said that we will not ignore this. Our action is in continuation of our police. We will not accept sporadic firing of rockets from the Gaza Strip or Sinai," Netanyahu added.
"We will act, and are acting, to defend Israeli citizen," Netanyahu said.
He further offered condolences to the Israeli victim, who was stabbed by a Palestinian in the Tapuch junction in the West Bank on Tuesday morning.
"I would like to extend my condolences to his family. The terrorist who perpetrated the murder has been captured and we will continue to act on this front as well in order to defend our citizens," he added.
Earlier, the Israeli Air Force raided the Gaza enclave and killed one person, who is allegedly connected to missile launches towards southern Israel.
The target of the raid was Hitam al-Mashal, 29, who was said to be responsible for 17 missiles launches towards southern Israel in April.
Hitam al-Mashal, 29, was killed as he was riding his motorcycle near a Hamas military base.
This is the first time Israel had targeted a specific person at an air raid since operation Pillar of Defense took place in November, 2012.
The IAF attacked targets at the strip on Saturday night following a rocket launch from the strip towards an Israeli community.
According to a statement released by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson unit, an Israeli aircraft shelled a terror facility and weapons cache in the southern strip.
This comes after a ceasefire agreement inked between Hamas and Israel after the November military campaign.
